And then...
Alta Vista
Excite
HotBot
Lycos

It sounds like a pretty simple question, but sadly, search engine submission can be a complicated subject, & pricey to boot.  Search Engines are misunderstood in a major way... It is possible to get 10, or even 100 of 1,000 people a day visiting your site through the major search engines, but it ISN'T EASY. You CANNOT just go built a site & submit once, you will notice little or no added traffic from such methods.

Search engine stuff is a big subject but yes, I do have some basic Phrizbie pointers that have worked for us & many of our clients over the years. Meta Tags are important but.... The KEY to good rankings besides submitting is having repetition of keywords in the content of the website. This means the text, image names, titles of the pages, meta tags, & ALT tags. They all must work together to create something the search engines decide is “RELEVANT”.

Using Phrizbie Design as an example:  How did you find us? Chances are you typed in a keyword phrase & our site popped up. IE. If you type in logo design, Phrizbie is about #200, but if you type in “Spa Logo Design” we are #1, because we are not only really specific what we do, but our site is FULL of content relating to this exact service (& we've been at it 8 years now!) The more specific you can be the better. There are so many tools to help you improve or OPTIMIZE your site & all it's content out there, ask us for which one we think is best for you.See below for recommendations that work for everyone.

The main things to ALWAYS keep in mind are - Repetition is key! And...

- Research your Keywords
- Submit Often, or use a service that does it for you.
- Use Keywords in site as often as possible.

Free Tools To Benchmark and Compare Your Website Traffic

There's no better feeling than seeing your traffic trend chart hovering over a competitor's site/s. And should the opposite be the case - nothing is more frustrating. For those of you who want an easy way to see how your site compares to your competitors in terms of traffic and reach, here are the top traffic benchmark tools - and best of all, they're free (well for the most part - many offer premium services too). Descriptions below are taken from the respective tool's website - so any ridiculously impressive claims are purely the opinion of the site's copywriter. But they're listed here because they're worth your attention (in my opinion).

Compete.com

Quantcast
Quantcast is a new media measurement service that lets advertisers view audience reports on millions of websites and services. Google Trends
With Google Trends, you can compare the world's interest in your favorite topics. Enter up to five topics and see how often they've been searched on Google over time. Google Trends also shows how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and in which geographic regions people have searched for them most. [it now includes website comparison based on the same technology]
